Route guides Glentress

How to get there:From Glasgow, head east along A8. Exit at Newhouse Roundabout. Take exit for Newmains. Head straight through Newmains until you come to Carluke. Then just follow the signposts for Peebles. Simple. When you get to Peebles, head straight through the High Street, Past the Hydro Hotel (on left). The entrance to the forest is on your left.

Start at the car park at the hub.Start climbing the hill. There are two ways to the top. You can follow the beginning of the Black Route markers, alternatively just climb the road to Buzzards Nest car park. Whichever way you do it you gotta climb!!!

The Skills Loop -1km clockwise circular loop- is accesible from the Buzzards Nest car park as well, and is a slightly narrower loop that has a nice smooth surface with obstacles and challenges that mimic the main trails. It's a good area for novices and yougsters to practice their mountain bike skills before tackling the Blue, Red and Black trails. It is regularly used for school groups and it works really well.

Blue Route -8 miles, one and half hours- the Blue route is a moderate route with some steep sections. The blue route is currently being modified to make some of the sections a bit less agressive and steep. An easier route than the red although still a mountain bike route. Suitable for those who have some mountain bike experience but are still new to the sport.

Red Route-12 miles, two and a quarter hours-the Red route is designed for good mountain bikers, and consists of big bermed corners, fun little double jumps. It is a track that flows really well and can be very fast in dry conditions. I always describe it as a big BMX track. A real blast. The red route has now been updated (end 2004) New doenhill section with sweeping berms and quality jumps. Once finished on the red, it is possible to link up with the black at the Ewok village and finish in style.

Black Helly Hansen track-20 miles. NOT FOR BLOUSES

This is what we live for. This has got to be one of the best routes in Scotland. I will add review soon.
